North Moab Recreational Area
Client:
Utah Department of Transportation
Completed:
Numerous phases, 2014-2022
Location:
Moab, Utah
Background
Horrocks collaborated with Grand County and the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) to enhance the city of Moab's recreational areas and trail systems, improving connectivity and creating new and safer pathways for users.
Project Details
This award-winning collection of projects included the addition of the Lion's Park Transit Hub and a 1.8-mile trail along the Colorado River, providing safe access on multiple trails for pedestrians and bicyclists throughout the Moab recreational area. Designs included four elevated trail bridges, one pedestrian tunnel, eight retaining walls, and two shade structures.
Outcomes
Coordination with multiple agencies was required to make this group of projects happen, which made their completion a tremendous success shared by many. The most impressive components of these efforts include a 500-foot pedestrian bridge that spans the Colorado River, paralleling US-191, and a series of cantilevered bridges upstream. These innovative structures span nearly half a mile and facilitate safe passage through a narrow canyon for pedestrians and bicyclists from around the world.
