Horrocks Honors University of Utah Scholarship Recipients

This spring, Horrocks Engineers awarded two scholarships to students of the University of Utah’s College of Engineering. The scholarships, given in honor of founder Gilbert Horrocks, were made available for juniors and seniors in the college’s Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. Students eligible for these scholarships were asked to submit brief responses about their educational and professional plans, including how they would utilize their education to make a positive impact in the community.

Two outstanding individuals, Jeremy Jareckyj and Joseph Hussein, were selected as the scholarship winners after submissions were reviewed by Horrocks committee members Tracy Conti, Georgia Tsoutsounis, and Tony Curtis. Upon meeting with these scholarship recipients, structures engineer Tony Curtis noted, “It was an awesome experience to meet them both and hear about how receiving this scholarship has impacted them.”

On Oct. 24, two of Horrocks’ University of Utah alumni, Georgia Tsoutsounis and Tony Curtis, attended a banquet honoring scholarship recipients from the College of Engineering to congratulate the Horrocks scholarship winners on behalf of the firm. As the evening’s featured speaker, Tony shared with more than 350 attendees the ripple effect of scholarship opportunities, urging the scholarship winners to pay it forward.

Horrocks is proud to support the education of tomorrow’s engineers, and we look forward to seeing the contributions these students will soon make in our industry.
