Every February, Horrocks Engineers proudly joins with schools, professional firms, industry partners, and our local communities to celebrate Engineers Week, or EWeek. This annual event was founded by the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE) to raise the profile of engineers and recognize the impact that the engineering profession has on the world around us.
This year, we honored our industry and employees by posting on our social media pages and hosting an internal challenge asking staff members to share what makes them proud of the work they do at Horrocks. Emily Andrus, a Traffic Engineer-in-Training (EIT) in our St. George office, explained,
“As a Traffic Engineer, I love being involved in my community. I like knowing what projects are going on, and I like being involved in the process of how to make the roads run as efficiently as possible. I'm always interested to hear what people think of the traffic in our area and their ideas of how to fix things.”
In addition to our social media content and EWeek challenge, our offices celebrated with volunteer activities, office parties, a ping pong tournament, and more. See below to see some of the Horrocks EWeek activities from this year’s celebration.
Grovecrest Elementary School Presentation
Pleasant Grove, Utah
Engineering staff and volunteers from Horrocks’ Pleasant Grove office visited a local elementary school to give a presentation about engineering and complete a classroom activity. Using foam cups, straws, duct tape, and pencils, students created water tank and pipe network models to show how water is transferred across a neighborhood.
Client Happy Hour
Albuquerque, New Mexico
Horrocks’ New Mexico office celebrated Engineers Week by inviting employees and clients to a happy hour event complete with drinks, food, and a friendly cornhole competition.
Snack Day and Ping Pong Tournament
Meridian, Idaho
Engineers Week at the Meridian office kicked off with a day of snacks and was followed by a week-long employee ping pong tournament. Environmental Planner Jan Howe reigned supreme in the tournament and took home the Engineers Week ping pong trophy and a gift card to celebrate his victory.
Department Celebration and Luncheon
Salt Lake City, Utah
The Salt Lake City office enjoyed a week of treats and a staff luncheon to celebrate all the departments in their office, including accounting, administration, construction management, corporate, fiber/telecom, human resources, innovative contracting, marketing, planning, public involvement, transit, transportation, and visualization.
Thank you to everyone who helped make this annual event successful across our offices. For more photos of our office celebrations, click through the slideshow below, or watch the video of the Meridian office's ping pong tournament for a good laugh.
