EMERGENCY RESPONSE CENTER

Location: Lincoln County, WA
Horrocks provided funding and design assistance for the site development and design of an 11,482-square-foot Emergency Response Center that would ultimately provide first response and ambulance services to all fires, accidents, or medical emergencies that happen within 200 square miles of Lincoln County, which includes Sprague, Washington, and 17 miles of Interstate 90. The building design included a large community meeting and training room, 10 emergency apparatus bays, 12 sleeping bunks, a fitness area, a kitchen, offices, a citizen safe area, and additional support spaces. The site was arranged to maximize the most efficient use of space while also providing controlled access and critical line-of-sight views to the exterior approaches. Concrete and steel construction materials were chosen because of their durability, affordability, and local availability. Horrocks accommodated this complicated site by creating a unique two-story configuration and separating parking and approach areas according to use, which minimized the need for cut-and-fill operations. This design allowed more of the limited budget to be spent on the building and less on the site development. Horrocks also performed the construction management and ensured the closeout met the requirements of all funding sources and passed federal and state audits.
